MISSION STATEMENT
Chico American Legion Baseball and NorCal Mavericks Athletic Development are committed to fostering both the physical and emotional advancement of student-athletes and their commitment to self and others. This is developed through exceptional coaches and instructors which instill responsible behavior, humility, integrity, leadership, communication, and respect. Our program strives to engage the mind, body, and spirit in the pursuit of life long excellence through athletic development, academic preparedness, and commitment to community involvement. The success of our student-athletes far surpasses accomplishments on the field and carries into future endeavors within our community and beyond.
CHICO AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
Founded in 1939, Chico American Legion Baseball has four competitive teams for players between the ages of 14-19, comprised of the most talented players from Chico, Paradise, Durham, Willows, Colusa, Maxwell, and Hamilton. The Chico Nuts are the premier team (17-19) and the Chico Suns Blue, Chico Suns Red, and Chico Rice are all developmental teams that each play 30-65 games during the spring and summer, and an additional 20-30 during the fall.
Our program is led by the four time California State American Legion champion Chico Nuts. In our continual effort to develop skills and character through competition, hard work, and brotherhood, we have the Chico Suns (17U), Chico Rice (14U). Enjoy the game and experience.
NORCAL MAVERICKS ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT
The NorCal Mavericks was founded in 2010 with the vision of creating an elite baseball and softball training program to serve Chico and the surrounding areas.
Since our founding, we have developed an indoor facility that serves as a home to a number of competetive baseball teams ranging from 10U through 13U and softball teams ranging from 10U through 18U.
The Mavericks are dedicated to facilitating improvement and success for youth athletes in their sport, academics, and their communities. Between the lines, Mavericks players are taught the
value of hard work, determination and never quit attitudes that are key to success both inside and outside the lines of the playing surface.
Two primary things make the Mavericks different from most of the other "Travel ball" organizations between the lines. First, the Mavericks believe that development comes from mastering the foundations of the sport. To master the foundations of the sport, players need repetition. Repetition is best gained through practices where players are getting dozens of reps, as opposed to games, where players may only get a few opportunities to make plays.
Second, the Mavericks organization works based on individual player merit. This means that each position on the field is based on the best player to fill that position and only qualified coaches work with our kids. Mavericks coaches all either play or have played at a college level or above.
Outside the lines, our Mavericks players are involved in a number of community outreach programs through the Mavericks, with the most prominent being our Maverick players' involvement as volunteers during the Challenger Baseball season.
Our vision is not to just create players who will honor the traditions of baseball and softball but to help develop young individuals who will be the future leaders of their respective communities.
All Mavericks players must prove to be outstanding citizens first. Further, to participate in games/tournaments, all Mavericks players must demonstrate a 3.0 GPA or higher.
We never turn a deserving player away because of their inability to pay. The Mavericks organization runs four major fundraisers each year, with the proceeds going towards helping everybody have an opportunity to get college-level baseball and softball training. If you are motivated to develop your game and are willing to put in the work, there is nothing standing in the way of you becoming a Maverick.
